ATH 903 – Coaching: Leadership and Team Cohesion
Important to athletic success is the development of leadership and team cohesion. Leadership, defined, is simply behavior that influences. Everyone on a team is, in some way, a leader. Successful coaches know how to develop a team culture of leadership that results in greater individual and team success. This course provides an applied overview of effective leadership and how to develop of team cohesion within an athletic context.
ATH 905 – Coaching: Teaching Character
This course focuses on the important areas of character development, moral reasoning, and ethical issues typically found in sport. The course activities include interactions with other successful coaches, interviews, readings, and personal reflection. There are practical experiences designed specifically for your student-athletes. This course provides practical experiences for the coach and athlete to think more deeply about moral character, ethical issues, and dilemmas encountered in our competitive world.
ATH 907 – Coaching: Drugs in Sport
This course is designed to encourage the coach to think about the issues and facts that surround the usages of performance-enhancing supplements typically encountered by the coach in our athletically competitive world. The National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC) as part of the NASPE national standards calls for coaches to be knowledgeable in the area of performance-enhancing substances. Course activities include coaches interviews, readings, personal reflection, observations, and guided evaluation through practical experiences with current student-athletes or coaches.
ATH 941 – Coaching: Working Effectively with Parents
Effectively working with parents is a very common issue for coaches. This course is designed to help the coach build strong positive relationships with their sport parents.
